I have never knit with alpaca yarn before. I have read about the animals and planned to purchase some yarn. Truthfully, I would really like to own an alpaca as they are described as being quite amiable when socialized and also adorable looking.
Knitting has seen a resurgence and my interest in knitting has been renewed. Knitting requires some concentration but becomes automatic once a pattern is imprinted and recognized and then a tempo can be achieved. I like the quiet tempo of knitting.
I just finished a vest for JB which took a lot of concentration. Knitting is comprised of only two stitches but there are hundreds of ways in which the stitches can be rearranged and manipulated. The pattern for the vest was a challenge in counting, and there were times when I wanted to kick myself for losing my place in the pattern. It's done and going to NY tomorrow, and I think I have learned a lot about approaching a knitting project.
The girls and I went for a run today. The weather is strangely balmy. The reservoir looks odd to me because the geese and swans are gone, and there are sections of water that are frozen in sheets. There is melting snow on the ground and it is comical to try to run through the slush. None of us had a particularly good run. NB had iPod troubles, JS had stomach issues, and I had trouble breathing. Still, I have to say that it makes me smile as I write this because I enjoyed being outside, despite the obstacles.
After coming home for a couple of minutes, I asked the girls to come to the local yarn store with me to pick out colors for knitting a cowl for each of them. These have recently come back into style and are multi-purpose neckwear and headwear. I am using bulky alpaca yarn for this project and it is so very soft and easy to knit. It does tend to be pricey but I am beginning to realize that some cheaper yarns don't keep their shape well. I'll have someone model the finished product for those who are interested.
