I spent the entire evening knitting this old porcelain doll a new dress. It's modified from an online pattern for Barbie. She doesn't have the wasp waisted dimensions of Barbie or the bust line. Regardless, I like the way she looks in it and her smile appears faintly cheerier to me.
As I was knitting the dress, it occurred to me that it looked something like the crocheted toilet paper cover dolls that my Aunt Esther used to make for all the relatives. That launched me into a whole dimension of reminiscing and missing people who are gone. I can get lost like that for hours with the outcome being neither good nor bad. It's the way life is..

I LOVE the doll dress! My grandmother used to sew amazing clothes for my sister's and my Mme Alexander dolls - oh, the memories...
BTW, that looks like the same yarn I used to knit a sweater a few years ago - http://www.ravelry.com/projects/laurie1176/lara - Schaeffer Yarn Co. Miss Priss - could it be??
(the pillow you made for JM is beautiful - she is a lucky girl!)
It's the yarn I bought before the wedding when I went shopping with you. Your knitting is so terrific. That's a beautiful sweater. Speaking of doll clothing, it's apparently Barbie's 50th birthday. Funny that I should be compelled to knit a Barbie sized dress now. I never had much use for her in the past.
