Jackie ran away this morning but is now back. I just finished confessing this fact to my family, who reminds me that Palookie often ran away. I had more faith in Palookie's native intelligence. The whole scenario was an inadvertent mistake by someone who came over to sell me Mary Kay cosmetics.
I do not have the remotest interest in Mary Kay products but a friend is selling them, and it is her sole means of wage earning. I opened my front door a crack to let her in and she flung it open and let Jack out. He bolted for the woods without a second thought and did not return when I called him. I ran all around my house, shrieking "Jackie, Jackie!" The roofers on the house next door said they could not spy him. This woman felt pretty bad. Of course I was furious, but I am able to contain my anger.
Jack returned after about 20 minutes and the roofers saw him first. He proceeded to run across the street and into another neighbor's open door. Pablo, meanwhile, ran across the street with me and I was finally able to scoop Jack up. He began to cry as I picked him up.
The more we have Jack, the more certain we are that he had been mistreated. It has left him kind of blank and without strong bonds. Pablo, who is our boy, would never have just taken off. These past five months with Jack have been a challenge.
My friend made a funny observation about me. She said that she sees that I prefer running to walking. She said that she noticed that every time I got up, even in the house, I start off by jogging and then running. I hope I can get back to some real running this season.
The Yankees are on television and the woman is gone. I bought some products from her and now I want to be left alone. Miss NB arrived in Copenhagen safe and sound and seemed to be thrilled to be back for a short visit. I am happy that her flights were uneventful.

I love you. I am SO glad that Jackie is home. I will call you later today!
