I am devoting this week to singing songs to little Jackie where all the lyrics are his name. He loves these songs and I now have Miss NB and JS singing them too. Jack has had a hard life, and now revels in this new, most loving one. JS says it's like he's been re-parented and seems to have shed all his former aggression and worries.
There's lots of time for singing Jackie songs because I have taken off this week from work. I made a tactical move when I was asked to cover for everyone else who was taking off, who wanted me to pretty much cover urgent care for two weeks. I am tired of working the most popular holidays and weekends, and working during the summer weeks that are least well staffed. I just said that I had planned a vacation as well, and in my current status, little can be done to exert pressure on me. There are other personnel from various centers who can be enlisted to fill in the gaps. We make their lives easier all the time and we do deserve some payback.
There is a lot of busyness in the family, and so I am staying put. It's really quite nice to have a very loose schedule and be able to run, sew, watch the Sotomayor inquisition, and sing doggie songs without time constraints. Miss NB is working hard on her secondary applications which are flooding in. She landed a wonderful job, working with a famous genetics researcher for the year and she wants to get many of her secondary applications done before starting work. I stick around to keep her company.
The two medical students are immersed in their rotations. Their experiences are profound as they learn about making judgments while dealing with people. I am proud of C for holding the hand of a distraught semi-sedated woman on the way to the OR.
The newlyweds are on their way to Europe soon, and I will be their home anchor. It's great for them to get away from their businesses and out of NYC for a little while. I don't mind being the person who stays home this month, though I am still trying to convince Dad of the need for getting away sometime soon. Meanwhile, I have no complaints.
